Location
The location is surprisingly good. At the end of the street is the popular Ledig Erf and you can walk wonderfully in the green Zocherplantsoen along the canal. History
The building dates from 1844 and has functioned as a cigar factory. The building is mainly known for the boulder that is chained to the corner of the building. This was laid down as a scuff stone and is therefore the name giver of the building.
There are several legends about ‘De Gesloten Steen’. One of those legends states that the devil and his servant were throwing this stone between the nearby Geertebrug and Vollersbrug at night. When they missed, the stone hit the ground with such a thud that the houses shook to their foundations. The boulder was then chained up (closed) to get rid of the trouble.
